Proteins can be made rumen resistant by having them react chemically with sugar or with formaldehyde. As using formaldehyde will no longer be allowed in the European Union from July 2023, FeedValid offers a reliable alternative of high-quality rumen-protected proteins made using sugars. In this process, protein from protein-rich raw materials (such as soybean meal or rapeseed extraction meal) is bound to sugars under controlled conditions using a Maillard reaction.
RaPass-RES and SoyPass
RaPass-RES (based on rapeseed extraction meal) and SoyPass (based on soybean meal) are produced using the patented Borregaard process. The meal is toasted in combination with a wood sugar and an acid, which react with the protein to make it rumen protected. RaPass-RES and SoyPass improve the availability of Intestinal Digestible Protein and enable increased milk production. Since rumen-protected protein is not broken down in the rumen, ammonia formation and emissions are reduced compared to the use of non-rumen-protected protein.
CovaminoRap and CovaminoSoy HP
CovaminoRap (based on rapeseed extraction meal) en CovaminoSoy HP (based on soybean meal) are produced according to FeedValid’s own recipe. During toasting, the protein reacts with molasses and an enzyme, making it rumen protected. CovaminoRap and CovaminoSoy HP improve the availability of Intestinal Digestible Protein and may promote milk production. Since rumen-protected protein is not broken down in the rumen, ammonia formation and emissions are reduced compared to the use of regular proteins.
